Flamingo Future Foundation e.V. is a non-profit association founded by members of the creative team El Flamingo. As we already make films on environmental and social topics, we now want to take the next step. Our mission with the Flamingo Future Foundation is to raise money and support environmental projects we trust and believe in.

WE ARE HERE TO LEARN. WE ARE NO SCIENTISTS OR EXPERTS BUT WE HAVE A LOVE FOR NATURE AND THIS IS ALREADY A GOOD START.

OUR FIRST PROJECT

PLANT A FOREST IN ROMANIA - 2026

Sounds a bit like “we have no idea what to do, let´s plant a forest”? Actually not. Over the last years we made the movie BLOOD WOOD about the last wild forests of Europe and how we are losing them right now. That´s why we feel the need to get active - even on a small scale.

Together with the romanian forest engineer Silviu, we will do the whole process. Choose a suitable piece of land, buy it, drive to Romania and plant a young forest onto it.

We plant a forest in Romania! The plan is to buy land strategically around precious old-grown forests to create buffer zones for plants and animals. Once bought we travel to our piece of land and start to plant our own forest. For sure not alone!
In the end we can watch our forest grow. No cutting. No profit. Just nature.
Initially we wanted to buy existing forest and set it under protection, just by buying it. This unfortunately doesn´t work that easy. Even if you own a forest in Romania it doesn´t mean it can´t be cut. There is a forest management plan which decides which forest will be cut, no matter who owns it. The only way to actually protect a forest is to go through a legal defense process which can actually take years and might not succeed.
A hectare (10.000 m²) of suitable land, to grow a forest on, costs around 8000€ in Romania. The seedlings and planting another 5.000€ and the preparation of the land 2.000€ per hectare. The maintenance per year 1000€ per hectare. Makes a total of around 16.000€ per hectare.
The land, the plants, the plan is carefully chosen and made by the forest engineer and local representative Silviu from the NGO Agent Green. We realized the film BLOOD WOOD with his help and fully trust on his scientific expertise. He already planted a forest successfully 5 years ago. Look at the pictures below!
