🇷🇺OUTLAW DIARIES III Trip flashback / Day 10 / Day 10 is a big day for the outlaw crew. The weather couldn’t get any better and we find ourselves sitting in an old russian MI 8 helicopter ready for take off. That is the moment we‘ ve waited for since two month now. As we lose touch with the ground everybody knows that we did it. The landscape is incredible from above and we can’t get our fingers off the record button. Bengel is sitting in front next to the pilotes scanning the landscape for rideable terrain. As we find our first steep volcano run and we drop Bengel on top of that huge mountain, it gets even more intense. He is standing on top beeing the size of ant facing that ultra long run. We‘re sitting in the heli beeing ready for whatever and then we hear his voice cracking through the radio „Drop in!“
Thanks to everybody involved in this project! @platzangst @manitoumtb @hayesperformancesystems @continentalmtb @snowxplore @snowvalleykamchatka @bene.kaiser 📷 Constantin Fiene
🇷🇺Trip flashback OUTLAW DIARIES III / Day 8 & 9 / Another rainy scouting day is waiting for us. This time we check out some spots at the coast near Petropawlowsk. There is one trail including a scetchy drop. The locals tell us that two people jumped it so far and one ended up in hospital. We decide to do it quick and dirty and move on. When we reach the coast the weather got even worse. We park at an old military base where some soldiers work on a tank. Don‘t know if they are amused about our visit so we try to check the coast and the beach for some rideable spots quickly. Except a dead seal and one nice droneshot there is nothing to get. On the next day the weather gets better and we find a small valley where we can build some jumps. After a couple of hours digging we got one small step down and a sweet corner. It’s time for some airtime! 📷 Constantin Fiene
🇷🇺 Trip flashback OUTLAW DIARIES III / Day 7 / Day 7 means getting up early and doing a bumby 2 hours drive through an unreal moonscape until we finally reach the foot of a vulcano. From there it is another 1 hour hike until we reach the top. When we get there we feel like we‘re on a different planet. Thick fog, steams, loud whizzing sounds and the smell of rotten eggs everywhere. We just stepped on top of an active vulcano and you can feel the pressure under our feet waiting to be released. Totally stoked from the scenario we move on to find the run we are looking for. We walk through thick fog until we realise that it‘s not only the vulcano steams but also a big cloud we‘re in. We wait and wait for the cloud to disappear but no chance. One really small run is rideable the rest vanishes in the white. Disappointed and tired we hike down the vulcano and prepare for a long drive back to the lodge.
🇷🇺Trip flashback OUTLAW DIARIES III / Day 6 / Finally the sun comes out and for the first time we can really see this unreal landscape. Green valleys everywhere and in between those giant volcanoes. We decide to go for a gravel pit we can see from the lodge in the distance. „It won‘t take us too long to shoot that one...“ Actually it took us half a day to only get on top of it. But the view from up there was priceless and the ride down was huge! We had time for 1 single run before it got to dark... we really need to get usted to those distances over here. 📷Constantin Fiene
🇷🇺Trip flashback OUTLAW DIARIES III / Day 4 & 5 / The rain continues. So on day 4 we go for another further scouting round to check if there are some rideable spots somewhere. In the end we didn‘t find anything really thrilling except an old tank and for sure some of the biggest puddles we have ever seen. Rainy Kamchatka got us! The next day at least the rain stops and we decide to built a trail in a forest next to the lodge. With our pure manpower and a little help of a digger we stomp that trail out of the ground and start shooting it. The weather service says it will clear up the next days 🙌🏻 we definitely need some sun ! 📷 Constantin Fiene
🇷🇺Trip flashback OUTLAW DIARIES III / Day 3 / The weather became more rainy and pretty foggy. Nothing that stops us from starting our first real scouting day over here. After some shaky hours in our landcruiser we finally spotted a promising gravel run made of black vulcano stones. Half an hour walk through thick bushes later we reach this valley with the black dirt and snow covered ground. Looks like it will work. Bengel hikes up and drops in. This face probably just gets ridden by a bike for the first time! We have some more runs until the weather gets so rainy that we decide we have enough for this day. Just get back through that forest to the car and back to the lodge. 📷 Constantin Fiene
🇷🇺Trip flashback OUTLAW DIARIES III / Day 2 / Hello Kamchatka. After another 3 hours traveling on bumpy roads we finally reach the @snowvalleykamchatka lodge. The first friend we make, is our new crew member „Gulli“ the dog who follows us everywhere we go. After scouting the lodge area we meet with @maxbaloo for planing our 2 weeks in Kamchatka. A location where Bengel can ride down a vulcano is our demand. He shows us tons of opportunities and we realize that we maybe need 2 years and not only 2 weeks for our mission. In the evening we test out the hot springs just next to our apartment and really start to like it here, on the other end of the world.
🇷🇺Trip flashback OUTLAW DIARIES III / DAY 1 / There we go! Into the unknown. Starting from Düsseldorf, Germany to Moskow and from Moskow to Petropawlowsk, Kamchatka. After 20 hours of flying, changing airports and waiting we finally land in Petro. From the plane we already got some views on those massive vulcanoes popping out of the clouds. The airport has only one luggage conveyer belt in a hall that has more in common with a greenhouse than with an airport 😄 but we like it from the first minute in this foreign country! After we got all our luggage and the bikes in one peace we’re happy to meet our guide Matthias @snowxplore who picks us up in front of the airport. Let’s buy some smoked salomon, beer and there we go: off into the wilderness! 📷 Constantin Fiene
Stocked after our first heli run ever in Kamchatka! A short break at the bottom and then go for another one 🚁🚴🏻‍♂️🏔🇷🇺
